چکیده

Mat of mycelia of Phanerochaete chrysosporium were immobilized on loofa-sponge discs, as an inert support, to obtain a suitable biosorbent .Mean amount of immobilized P.chrysosporium on loofa-sponge was 376 mgg of dry loofa-sponge. In this study immobilized P.chrysosporium and naked loofa-sponge discs were used as biosorbent to remove Pb (II) and Cd (II) from aqueous solution .At kinetic study residual concentration of metal ions was determined after contacting for up to 120 min. Equilibrium was established in about 60 min for both metals. The maximum uptake of Pb and Cd was 88.9 mgg and 63.1mgg -1 for immobilized P.chrysosporium and 21.6mgg and 16.5 mggfor naked loofa-sponge, respectively. In order to examine the controlling mechanism of biosorption process, kinetic models were used to test the experimental data and kinetics was found to be best-fit pseudo-second-order equation.

Sorption Performance of Live and Heat-Inactivated Loofa-Immobilized Phanerochaete chrysosporium in Mercury Removal from Aqueous Solution

The sorption behavior of loofa-immobilized Phanerochaete chrysosporium mycelia in two forms, Live (L) and Heat-Inactivated (HIA), was studied for the removal of Hg2+ ions from aqueous solution. Using the Langmuir isotherm, the two key parameters for the sorption performance, qm and the coefficient b, were obtained; the qm ...

Biosorption of Lead (II) and Zinc (II) ions by pre-treated biomass of phanerochaete chrysosporium

The biosorption of heavy metals can be an effective process for the removal of such metal ions from aqueous solutions. In this study, the adsorption properties of nonliving biomass of phanerochaete chrysosporium for Pb (II) and Zn (II) were investigated by the use of batch adsorption techniques. The effects of initial metal ion concentration, initial pH, biosorbent concentration, stirring speed...

Biodegradation of 2,4-dichlorophenol in a fluidized bed reactor with immobilized Phanerochaete chrysosporium.

The performance of a fluidized bed reactor using immobilized Phanerochaete chrysosporium to remove 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) from aqueous solution was investigated. The contribution of lignin peroxidase (LiP) and manganese peroxidase (MnP) secreted by Phanerochaete chrysosporium to the 2,4-DCP degradation was examined. Results showed that Lip and Mnp were not essential to 2,4-DCP degradation...

Removal of Cd(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) from aqueous solutions by live Phanerochaete chrysosporium.

Living Phanerochaete chrysosporium mycelia were used to remove heavy metals of Cd(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) in auqeous solution. The uptake of heavy metal by the mycelia was dependent on the environmental conditions. The optimum biosorption conditions of Cd(II), Cu(II), and Zn(II) were pH 5.5-6.5 at 37 degrees C, and 6 h. Under these conditions, the fungal biosorbent removed Cd(II), Cu(II), and Zn...

Biosorption of lead, Mercury, and cadmium ions by Aspergillus terreus immobilized in a natural matrix.

Our aim was to investigate the biosorption of Pb2+, Hg2+, Cd2 from aqueous solution by Aspergillus terreus (both free and immobilized on loofa sponge discs). Our results show that the adsorption capacity of fungal biomass on loofa sponge (FBLS) is superior to free fungal biomass (FFB). The adsorption selectivity by FBLS was in the order Pb2+>Hg2+>Cd2+. The maximum metal ions adsorbed was 247.2,...
